Rovinj to host UNWTO Executive Council session, Red Bull Air Race

Author: rmli
ZAGREB, May 26 (Hina) - The northern Croatian Adriatic resort of Rovinj is to host this week two big international tourism events that are certain to attract additional attention of the international tourism and media communities - the 100th session of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Executive Council, to take place on May 27-29, and the Red Bull Air Race Championship, a competition of the world's best pilots, to be held on May 30-31.

Both events are supported and organised by the Tourism Ministry and the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) in cooperation with local partners in Rovinj and Istria, hotel companies and tourism boards. They all expect a large number of visitors in Rovinj as well as many other benefits for the national tourism industry in general, primarily in terms of promotion.

Officials of the Tourism Ministry said the 100th session of the UNWTO Executive Council would bring together more than 200 participants, headed by UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai.

Attending the conference will be Iran's vice-president, eight tourism ministers, and a large number of deputy tourism ministers, state secretaries and other tourism officials.

Croatia has been a member of the UNWTO since 1993. It was elected a member of the UNWTO Executive Council in 2013 and currently co-chairs the Council with Mozambique.

After last year's first successful Red Bull Air Race in Rovinj, the world competition of the best pilots returns to Rovinj on May 30-31.

The event is expected to draw more than 50,000 visitors, which is how many people watched last year's show.

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship 2015 has eight races, it started in Abu Dhabi in February, the second race was held in mid-May in Chiba, Japan, and after Rovinj, races will be held in Budapest, Ascot, Spielberg, Fort Worth and Las Vegas.

Established in 2003 and created by Red Bull GmbH, the Red Bull Air Race is an international series of air races in which competitors have to navigate a challenging obstacle course in the fastest time. It features the 14 best race pilots in a show that combines speed, precision and skill in operating the fastest light race planes.
