HEP won the tender offering the best price, which according to Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic was 25,000 euros lower than those offered by other bidders including Petrol, the country's largest company and a major power provider.
This isn't HEP's first appearance on the Slovenian energy market. It is a new step toward strengthening the company's regional position. In February this year, HEP won a tender by Slovenia's electricity distribution network operator SODO to deliver electricity in the period from 2016 to 2017. HEP now has a 5% share in the Slovenian energy market.
Apart from operating in Slovenia, HEP also operates in other European energy markets, from Kosovo to Germany, whether this be electricity supplies or trading in CO2 emissions. It is also present on broker platforms and energy stock markets.
HEP believes that this is an important step that will assist the company in its endeavours to become a leading energy player in the region.
Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak congratulated HEP on winning the tender and landing this large deal in Slovenia.
"That is what I have been insisting on over the past few years, that HEP should step out beyond the borders of Croatia and focus on the region. HEP has the opportunity of becoming an energy leader in the region," he said.
