Presentation on NATO business opportunities held in Rijeka

Author: itom
KOSTRENA, May 5 (Hina) - Croatian companies need be more active in following and applying for public bids issued by NATO, it was stressed at the presentation called "NATO - a business opportunity" held in the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka on Tuesday.

The presentation aims at introducing local entrepreneurs to business opportunities that come with Croatia's NATO membership.

Representatives of the Economy Ministry and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) spoke about opportunities for Croatian companies.

Stipe Dzapo of the HGK said Croatian companies are not yet fully aware of the business opportunities that come with NATO public tenders, adding that Croatian companies were also very passive.

He underscored that those NATO tenders were not only for the procurement for the defence industry, but also for the procurement of furniture, vehicles, equipment and various services and that NATO can for instance issue a public bid for equipping a command post which could include equipping a gym in that deal.

Companies need to follow those tenders and apply, Dzapo said adding that once a company is registered in a data base of a NATO agency, it regularly receives information regarding new tenders.

Mirna Maravcic of the Economy Ministry said everything depends on which agency the company is applying to. The NATO Support Agency (NSPA) for example is an agency of a broad spectrum, while the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) is oriented towards information technology.

Also presented was a business report of the Victor Lenac dock which is currently doing the overhaul of a US Navy command ship.

In the next five years the shipyard plans to strengthen its business cooperation with the US Navy and sign deals for the overhaul of several more ships, the president of the Viktor Lenac Management Board, Robert Skific, said.
