Alain Badiou next guest of Theatre of Philosophy programme

Author: rmli
ZAGREB, April 17 (Hina) - One of the world's leading philosophers, Alain Badiou, will be a guest of the Theatre of Philosophy programme, to be held at the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Zagreb in May.

It will be the French philosopher's first visit to Croatia and on that occasion the HNK will publish the Croatian translation of his work "Rhapsodie pour le théâtre" (Rhapsody for the Theatre).

The French philosopher, playwright, mathematician and writer was born in Morocco in 1937 and teaches at the prestigious Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris.

Politically active since his early adolescence, primarily in the anti-colonial struggle in Algeria, and later in 1968, Badiou explores in his work the relationship between subjectivity and ontology.

The author of some 50 books, he puts in the centre of his philosophical system the four procedures for the truth which philosophy recognises as universal and eternal: mathematics, art, love and politics.

"In that context, theatre is one of the most important artistic areas that reveals the complex relationship between love and politics, the two most important and only topics of theatre, according to Badiou," organisers of the Theatre of Philosophy programme said.

The programme was launched in November 2014 with a panel featuring Bulgarian-French philosopher Julia Kristeva, followed by panels featuring Italian writer Niccolo Ammaniti, Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek, sociologists Saskia Sassen and Richard Sennet, and the most recent guest, French economist Thomas Piketty.
