The Cycle Track Map, whose design cost HRK 180,000, was designed by experts from Istria because of their experience in similar projects, Split-Dalmatia County Tourism Board director Josko Stella said.
"The map identifies 20 routes. After this, we intend to prepare bike track maps for the Makarska Riviera, and the islands of Brac, Hvar, Vis and more," Stella said.
The map will be posted on the county's website and the county bicycle society's website too.
Stella announced that training courses would be launched next month for future bike guides who will accompany bike riders along various routes pointing out special highlights, restaurants and so on.
Denis Spadina of the county bicycle society underscored the importance of bike track maps for cycling tourism, adding that he hoped this would make the Dalmatian hinterland an attractive tourism destination for cyclists.
Around 700,000 bike tourists come to Istria County each year, Spadina explained. Our objective is that before the year's end Split-Dalmatia County will have completed 30 bike tracks stretching over 1,500 kilometers and by the end of 2016 to have 40 bike tracks with a total length of 3,000 kilometres.
