Croatia's exports up 4.1%, imports down by 2.7%

ZAGREB, April 9 (Hina) - Croatia's exports increased 4.1% in the first two months of 2015 compared with the corresponding period in 2014, while imports contracted by 2.7%, the Croatian statistical office (DZS) stated in a preliminary report on Thursday.

As a result, Croatia's foreign trade deficit decreased by 13.2% to HRK 6.67 billion, with an improvement in the coverage of imports by exports from 60.2% in the first two months of 2014 to 64.5% in the January-February period in 2015.

In the said period, Croatia's exports increased 4.1% or by 479 million kuna to HRK 12.12 billion. Of that amount, 7.79 billion kuna were exports to European Union member states, which was a 2.6% rise.

Croatia's imports in January and February 2015 amounted to 18.8 billion kuna, down by 2.7% or by HRK 534.8 million year-on-year. Imports from 27 EU member-states came to HRK 15.01 billion, up by 3.4% on the year.

Imports from non-EU member-states tumbled by 21.3% to HRK 3.78 billion kuna, according to DZS preliminary data.
