"We eat quality and healthy food, all competent services and inspection teams do their jobs at an enviable level, and whenever the slightest suspicion comes up, a product is withdrawn from shelves," Jakovina said at a ceremony in Zagreb which was also attended by Health Minister Sinisa Varga.
The ceremony was organised by the Croatian National Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) that organised the promotion of the healthy habit of having breakfast.
The HZJZ also promoted the guarantee watermark "Healthy Living" for products safe for health that have favourable nutritive compositions.
The head of the WHO Zagreb office, Antoaneta Kaic Rak, assessed the food safety was a global challenge for public health.
The Croatian Red Cross today warned that annually some two million people worldwide die of consequences of consuming unhealthy and unsafe food. The Red Cross and the Health Insurance Agency (HZZO) also organised events in Zagreb promoting health food on World Health Day.
