On April 1, the EU will remove milk quotas after 30 years, which prompted an association of European dairy farmers to protest.
Croatian member of the European Parliament Marijana Petir of the Croatian Peasant Party organised the arrival of a group of concerned Croatian dairy farmers.
Petir said the dairy industry was the most endangered branch of Croatian agriculture because of low purchase prices and the "unfair practice" of retail chains, which she said sold "imported milk, of low quality and cheaper" as domestic milk.
Croatian MEP Davor Skrlec of the ORaH party said the number of dairy farmers in Croatia had been halved in recent years and that the removal of quotas would bring their survival in question.
