Author: half
MOSTAR, March 16 (Hina) - Bosnia and Herzegovina will this week begin the first deliveries of 550 tonnes of surplus ammunition donated to Iraq in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist organisation, the BiH Chief-Of-Staff, Lieutenant General Anto Jelec, told Hina on Monday.

"After the BiH Presidency's decision, we have begun with the final preparations for the delivery of the ammunition we are donating to Iraq in the fight against ISIL," he said. "We are practically ready for the delivery now... We are just waiting to find out when the flights can take place."

The ammunition will be transported by the United States army.

BiH Defence Minister Zekerijah Osmic announced today that during talks with the US Embassy in Sarajevo the government would consider the possibility of sending additional weapons and ammunition to Iraq.

The BiH government is donating 15 million 7.9-milimetre and 400,000 14.5-mm bullets to Iraq. Under defence reforms under the auspices of NATO and the US, BiH needs to dispose of more than 16,500 tonnes of ammunition and over 40,000 weapons.
