Sweden says five arrests are gang-related, Bosnia says terrorism

Author: half
MOSTAR, March 14 (Hina) - Bosnian authorities reiterated on Saturday that five persons arrested with improvised explosive devices (IDM) yesterday were linked to terrorism, although Swedish authorities said during the day that this was not about terrorism but a showdown between gangs.

"We were informed that this is about terrorism, and it is. Those persons were found with explosive devices and Bosnia and Herzegovina treats this as terrorism," said Boris Grubesic, spokesman for the Bosnian State Prosecutor's Office. He said this case was characterised as terrorism at the beginning of cooperation with Swedish and Dutch investigators.

He said it was possible that the Swedish authorities treated this case differently under their penal code.

Swedish police refuted the claims by the Bosnian police agency SIPA that five persons with links to terrorism were arrested in a police operation codenamed "Benelux".

This is not a terrorism investigation but is related to an investigation we have been conducting in Malmo for quite some time, said a Swedish police spokeswoman, Lotta Hansson.

Reporters asked her if the investigation was linked to recent explosions in Malmo. She said she could not comment but that this had nothing to do with terrorism.

Five persons were arrested on Friday in simultaneous police operations in Bosanski Brod and Sarajevo with IDMs they were to deliver to Sweden. The media reported that four were Bosnian citizens and one was Swedish.
