Protesters were carrying placards saying "No to eviction of tourists", "No to eviction of fish", "Tourism or oil" and "Down with oil rigs", and staged a performance to warn of the negative consequences of oil drilling in the Adriatic.
"If we put up oil rigs and pollute the sea, we will kill everything in it, the entire ecosystem, including fish, algae and everything else in the sea," an activist warned, calling on the government to decide whether it wanted tourists or oil rigs.
"An issue of such vital importance requires a referendum, and that's all we ask," activist Jurica Zitko Forempoher said. He added that Human Shield, in cooperation with several other non-governmental organisations, had organised a signature-gathering campaign and he was confident that they would manage to gather enough signatures for a referendum.
The performance ended with chants of "The Adriatic is ours!"
