Albanian and Croatian foreign ministers discuss infrastructure, energy

Author: mses
ZAGREB, Feb 16 (Hina) - Bilateral projects do not benefit only Albania and Croatia but are also useful for the stability of the region and Europe, Croatia's Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic said in Tirana on Monday after her talks with her Albanian counterpart, Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati.

"Albania and Croatia have many bilateral projects in which they can see their interests. In addition, anything useful to us is also useful to our region. In that sense, I perceive our cooperation as a contribution not only to our countries and the region, but also as a contribution to the stability of Europe," said Pusic, who was paying a day-long visit to Albania.

Pusic and her host Bushati discussed infrastructure and energy projects such as the Adriatic-Ionian gas pipeline, a proposed natural gas pipeline in Southeast Europe that is set to run from Albania through Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to Split in Croatia, and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), a route starting on the border of Turkey and Greece that is to continue onshore, crossing Greece, then west through Albania to the Adriatic coast. Also discussed was the Adriatic-Ionian motorway.

The talks also revolved around possibilities for the two countries to promote cooperation in agriculture, tourism, the pharmaceutical and food industries, according to Pusic.

She said that her host expressed satisfaction with the excellent cooperation which the two countries had developed to date.

Pusic will be received by President Bujar Nishani, Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta and Prime Minister Edi Rama during her stay in the Albanian capital.
