Slovenian media report extensively on Grabar-Kitarovic's inauguration

Author: mses
LJUBLJANA, Feb 15 (Hina) - The inauguration of Croatia's president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in Zagreb on Sunday was extensively covered by Slovenian media that underscored her message in the inaugural address that she would be the president of all Croatian citizens.

Slovenian Television recalled that Grabar-Kitarovic tightly won the presidential runoff on 11 January against the incumbent Ivo Josipovic, interpreting it as proof of deep divisions in the Croatian electorate.

The STA news agency described Grabar-Kitarovic's inaugural address as optimistic, with the new president calling for new Croatian unity in a bid to overcome the economic crisis and noting that there was no reason for Croatia not to be a rich society.

The Slovenian media underscored Grabar-Kitarovic's promise that she would never do anything against Croatian national interests and her appeal for overcoming ideological divisions stemming from the past.

Media outlets also noted that she expressed deep gratitude to the first Croatian president Franjo Tudjman and Homeland Defence War veterans.

Slovenia's President Borut Pahor, who attended the ceremony in St. Mark's Square, said in Ljubljana before his departure for Zagreb that he hoped that the new Croatian head of state would support bids of southeastern European aspirants on their path towards the European Union.
