Last month the 65 WSA countries, including Croatia, produced a total of 131 million tonnes of steel, which was 0.1 per cent more than in November 2013, the WSA said in a report.
In Croatia, steel production decreased by as much as 29.6 per cent year on year, the largest decrease among all 65 countries, to an estimated 10,000 tonnes, which put it at the bottom of the ranking of steel producers in the European Union.
The 65 WSA countries represent about 98 per cent of global steel production.
China, the world's leading steel producer, produced 63.3 million tonnes of steel in November 2014, down 0.2 per cent compared with November 2013. Of other Asian countries, Japan produced 9.2 million tonnes, or 1.1 per cent less than last year, while South Korea increased its production by 5.5 per cent to 5.9 million tonnes.
In Germany, the EU's leading steel producer, production fell by 1.9 per cent to 3.6 million tonnes. Spain also recorded a 1.9 per cent decline in steel production to 1.2 million tonnes, while Italy saw the sharpest drop in production, of 13.9 per cent to 1.9 million tonnes. France produced 1.4 million tonnes, up 5.8 per cent from last year.
Among other prominent European steel producers, Turkey reported a production decline of 8.6 per cent to 2.8 million tonnes. Russia produced 5.8 million tonnes, or 5.8 per cent more than last year, while Ukraine produced 1.8 million tonnes, a decline of as much as 28.6 per cent compared with November 2013.
The United States increased steel production by 1.5 per cent to 7.2 million tonnes and Brazil by 2.4 per cent to 2.8 million tonnes.
