Every year since 2003, the UNWTO has given awards for excellence and innovation in tourism for initiatives contributing to the sustainable development of tourism. The Croatian project was short-listed in the category for innovation in public policy and governance together with Peru's project aimed at promoting domestic tourism and the Vienna Tourist Board's project concerning the use of open innovation.
The winners will be announced in January and the awards will be presented at a ceremony on 28 January 2015, to be held as part of the FITUR fair in Madrid.
The Fragrances and Tastes of Losinj project was launched in 2005 in cooperation with the Mali Losinj town authorities to promote Losinj as an island of health and vitality. This Croatian island holds annual festivals of fragrances and has set up a centre for aromatherapy.
