Grabar Kitarovic visited the protestors in a tent set up outside on the ministry building and paid her respects in front of the photo of the late Nevenka Topalusic, a war veteran who had died last week during this sit-in protest.
She declined to speak to the press after visiting the protesters.
One of the leaders of the protesting group, Djuro Glogoski, told reporters that he thanked everybody who had visited the protesting veterans, including Grabar Kitarovic.
However, Glogoski noted that the HDZ presidential candidate would not explicitly say whether she would support their initiative to incorporate laws regulating their rights and entitlements into the country's constitution.
Asked by reporters who heard some of the protesters welcoming Grabar Kitarovic as the next Croatian president whether it meant that they supported her in the presidential race, Glogoski said that they treated all the presidential candidates in the same manner and that it was the Croatian people who would decide on who would be the next head of state.
The incumbent head of state Ivo Josipovic paid an unannounced visit to the protesters outside the ministry on Friday evening, and presidential candidate Milan Kujundzic came to see them on Sunday, which prompted reporters to ask Glogoski whether the presidential candidates were trying to use the protesters for the purposes of their own campaigns, and Glogoski replied that no one could exploit them.
Anyone who comes to our tent is welcome regardless of whether they are citizens of Zagreb and Croatia or presidential candidates, he said, adding that the protesters did not benefit from their visits.
He ruled out a possibility of the protestors dispersing before their demands were met.
Four protesters collapsed on Sunday, after which an ambulance was put on duty at the site of the rally.
