The embankment was opened by Agriculture Minister Tihomir Jakovina and Mayor Ivan Penava, who then toured the embankment in the company of local officials and the manager of the Hrvatske Vode water management company, Ivica Plisic.
Jakovina said that Hrvatske Vode invested about 150 million kuna in new embankments annually.
Asked by reporters when the embankment on the Sava River at the eastern municipalities of Gunja and Racinovci, which ruptured in floods in May this year, would be repaired, Jakovina said that work was proceeding as planned, even though weather conditions were unfavourable.
"I am not insisting that the job be done seven or ten days sooner or later. We want to do a good job. We had a huge disaster this year and we cannot afford new problems with that embankment in a few years' time," said the minister.
Hrvatske Vode manager Plisic said that work on the embankment at Budzak started in 2013 and was completed in April this year. The project cost slightly more than 2.2 million kuna, Plisic said, adding that construction and repair work was under way throughout the country on some 30 kilometres of embankments.
Later in the day, Jakovina was also expected to visit Donji Miholjac to open a 33-million-kuna waste water treatment plant.
