Eurostat published data for the top 20 tourist regions with the largest number of overnight stays in 2013. Eurostat uses statistical regions which may not correspond to the administrative division of the country concerned. Croatia is thus divided into two regions: Kontinentalna Hrvatska (Continental Croatia) and Jadranska Hrvatska (Adriatic Croatia).
The Spanish island region of the Canarias had the highest number of overnight stays (89.8 million nights), followed by the French capital region of Ile-de-France (77.5 million nights), the Spanish regions of Cataluna (70.5 million nights) and the Illes Balears (65.3 million nights), and the Croatian region of Jadranska Hrvatska (61.8 million nights).
Among the top 20 tourist regions in 2013 in terms of overnight stays, six were located in Italy (Veneto, Toscana, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardia, Lazio and Provincia autonoma di Bolzano/Bozen), five each in Spain (Canarias, Cataluna, Illes Balears, Andalucia and Communidad Valenciana) and France (Ile-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, Rhone-Alpes, Languedoc-Roussillon and Aquitaine) and one each in Croatia (Jadranska Hrvatska), the United Kingdom (Inner London), Austria (Tirol) and Germany (Oberbayern).
Continental Croatia recorded 2.6 million overnight stays in 2013.
