Downward trend continues in Croatia's employment market, says RBA

Author: mses
ZAGREB, Oct 6 (Hina) - A downward trend in employment in Croatia, which began in September 2009 resumed in August 2014, as a result of the protracted recession and bad conditions on the labour market, Raiffeisenbank Austria (RBA) analysts have said in their comment.

The RBA analysis cites employment figures which the national statistical office recently published showing that a total of 1.364 million Croatians were employed in August, down by 27,175 persons or by 2% compared to August 2014.

The number of employed Croatians in August decreased by 0.4 compared to July 2014, which was the first decline month-on month after a rise for five months in a row.

RBA analysts warn that a decline in employment dynamics could be expected in the months to come after the end of the tourist season and firing of seasonal workers.

Also, the number of employed people in Croatia from January to the end of August 2014 went down by 1.9% in comparison to the corresponding period in 2013.
