OPATIJA, Oct 5 (Hina) - A total of 8.6 million credit and debit cards
were in circulation in Croatia at the end of the first half of 2014,
up 0.2% compared to the corresponding period in 2013, and the total
value of card transactions in H1 2014 came close to 58 billion kuna,
or 3.6% higher than in H1 2013, according to figures presented at the
15th edition of the "SmartCard 2014" conference held in the Croatian
coastal resort of Opatija earlier in the week.
The figures which show a rise in those trends after downward trends in 2012 were presented by Vanja Dominovic of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
Also, the lion's share of those cards are smart cards (92.6%).
There were 4,225 ATMs throughout Croatia at the end of June 2014, 2% up year-on-year.
In addition, POS terminals rose to 100,000, and the value of transactions through POS terminals was 21.9 billion kuna.
