epaselect epa04399935 People take part in the parliamentary elections voting at a polling station in Simferopol, Crimea region, Ukraine, 14 September 2014. Polls opened in thousands of Russian regions, districts, cities and villages, as the country's biggest regional election since 1991 got underway. Voters will elect 30 regional governors and 14 regional parliaments, three mayors and thousands of municipal assemblies. Included are Moscow's City Duma and the governor of St. Petersburg, but international attention is expected to focus on the parliamentary elections in Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, which are being held for the first time since Russia controversially annexed the Black Sea peninsula from Ukraine in March.
