The play, written and directed by Marwa Manai, was created as part of the European-African project Deconfining and explores the theme of migration. Its premiere in Tunis took place on 24 January.
The cast featured both Croatian and Tunisian actors: Mario Jovev, Serena Ferraiuolo, and Edi Ćelić from Rijeka, alongside Sonia Zarg Ayouna, Nadia Belhaj, Thawab Aidoudi, and Allam Barakat from Tunisia.
The Deconfining project includes 12 partners from 11 countries and is funded by the EU's Creative Europe program. Its goal is to foster collaboration between the EU and Africa through sustainable intercontinental cultural exchange, which can also be applied to other regions worldwide.
All artistic partners come from European Capitals of Culture, with a focus on participatory approaches and the combination of virtual and physical content - research, new mobility and strategies, as well as the creation and touring of new artistic projects. The thematic framework emphasises openness in society, environment, and space for intercontinental cooperation while also rejecting patronising and colonialist practices in favour of new participatory and equal creative processes within a global community.
The HNK Rijeka is responsible for the project segment titled Artistic Expression and Capacity Building: Cultural Deconfining Institutions.
