A total of 298 recruits - 254 men and 44 women - have begun their training, marking the first step towards a potential military career. Among them are six top athletes who will follow an accelerated training programme adapted to their professional commitments, the ministry said.
The latest training cycle for the 45th generation of recruits undergoing voluntary military training has commenced at a training centre that is part of the Croatian Army’s Training and Doctrine Command in Požega.
Improved conditions for Croatian soldiers
The ministry attributed the rise in interest in military training to improved working conditions and greater benefits for Croatian soldiers.
"In 2024, salaries for active-duty military personnel increased by an average of 30%, daily allowances for participation in operations and international activities were raised, and the monthly allowance for voluntary military training rose from €700 to €900," the ministry said.
The first training cycle of the year lasts 40 working days, concluding on 9 April. Top athletes undergoing military training will complete the initial 12 days in Požega before continuing the remaining 28 days at their respective sports clubs.
