Ruđer Bošković Institute joins prestigious EU-LIFE alliance

Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, 28 Jan (Hina) - The Zagreb-based Ruđer Bošković Institute (IRB) has joined EU-LIFE, a leading international alliance of independent life science research institutes.

EU-LIFE on Tuesday announced the addition of the IRB and the London-based Francis Crick Institute, emphasising that this strategic decision aims to strengthen the voice of leading independent research institutes in biological sciences across Europe and foster an optimal research environment.

The IRB's inclusion in EU-LIFE reflects its scientific accomplishments, notably through its involvement in major EU-funded projects like Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. The IRB has led Croatian participation in Horizon 2020, achieving outstanding results with 38 projects worth €16.2 million. It also stands out with four European Research Council (ERC) projects, representing approximately 40% of all ERC grants awarded to Croatian scientists.

IRB Director David M. Smith expressed pride in the Institute's admission to EU-LIFE, calling it a testament to its excellence and international scientific contributions.

The EU-LIFE Board of Directors ratified the decision to admit both institutes during the EU-LIFE Strategy Meeting 2024, held in Copenhagen late last year.
