A national day of mourning is marked in the country by the mandatory display of the Croatian flag at half-mast on all buildings housing state authorities and local and regional government agencies, as well as on other public buildings.
On the day of mourning, no entertainment events may be held.
All presidential candidates on the campaign trail ahead of the 29 December elections have expressed condolences over the tragic event, and decided to suspend their campaigning activities for the time being.
The knife attack at the Prečko Primary School in Zagreb, in which one child died and several others were injured, was carried out by a 19-year-old former student of the school with a record of mental health issues.
All five individuals who sustained stab wounds in the attack are being treated in Zagreb hospitals and are in a stable condition, however, three of the injured require surgical treatment, said Health Minister Irena Hrstić.
