For December, January, and February, forecasts indicate a high likelihood of above-average temperatures.
"The positive temperature anomaly may be less pronounced in January 2025. While cold air incursions will undoubtedly occur, temporarily lowering temperatures to average or below-average levels, the overall trend points to a warmer winter," the DHMZ noted.
Precipitation levels are generally expected to be near average, with moderate confidence in this forecast. No significant deviations in monthly precipitation totals are anticipated, although there is a slightly increased probability of above-average rainfall along the Adriatic coast in February.
The DHMZ emphasised that seasonal precipitation forecasting is far more complex and less reliable than temperature predictions. "In such circumstances, dry periods may alternate with shorter intervals of heavier precipitation throughout the season," they explained.
