Addressing today's ceremony, which also included the premiere of a documentary about this brigade, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said that the film was about heroism, courage and commitment to the homeland demonstrated by the brigade's soldiers during the 1991-1995 Homeland War.
"Tigers" are a victorious unit and from this brigade many other units of the Croatian Army have developed. The memorial room is dedicated to those who gave their lives for Croatia, and without Croatian defenders, soldiers and police officers, the country would not have won its freedom and democracy, said the PM.
This is an important message to the current generations as well as for the generations to come, said Plenković.
Over 11,000 troops passed through the 1st Guard Brigade while defending Croatia against the Great Serbia aggression, and those defenders came from all areas of Croatia and also from Bosnia and Herzegovina and expat Croatian communities, said Plenković while conveying gratitude on his own behalf and on behalf of the government to "Tigers" and other defenders.
The 1st Guard Brigade "Tigers" was established on 5 November 1990 at the Rakitje military base.
