The Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saints Stephen and Ladislav is one of Zagreb's landmarks.
The cathedral, which was 108 metres high before the March 2020 earthquake, is currently 73.6 metres high, which means that almost a third has been removed. Around 4,000 pieces of stone from the towers and other parts have been removed, scanned, and labeled, so each can be restored precisely to the millimetre. Higher quality stone and a steel structure will be used.
During the visit to the cathedral, Obuljen Koržinek and Atalić were accompanied by experts from Switzerland, Portugal and some other professionals who arrived in Zagreb for a two-day scientific conference on the post-earthquake reconstruction of the cathedral and other listed monuments.
