At the conference organised by the A1 Croatia telecommunications company, the Croatian Game Development Alliance (CGDA) presented an analysis of the Croatian gaming or video game industry for 2023, with CGDA Secretary Aleksandar Gavrilović underscoring that 532 people were employed in that year, about 30 more than in 2022. When freelancers are added to that number, it becomes much higher.
Total industry revenues in 2023 fell to €56.6 million, from €61.8 million in 2022 and 2021, while total net profit decreased by about ten percent, to €10.3 million. Gavrilović said this was good, given that the past year was very difficult for the entire industry worldwide. He believes that the decline is not structural, but rather stabilisation after the pandemic.
The revenues would be even higher if, for example, there was no double taxation with the USA, said Gavrilović. He added that the estimates for 2024 were going in the direction of 2023.
The analysis for 2023 covered more than 60 companies that primarily or partially deal with video games. Among them, in 2023 there were twice as many as in 2019, or a total of 16, which employed more than ten people, which he said was already "very serious business". Of them, Nanobit, Pine Studio, Gamepires, Croteam, DEV, Fury Studios and others are in the top ten with the largest share in the total revenue.
Currently, around 150 games are being developed in Croatia, and the price ranges from 10 to 40 dollars. Most of the games will be presented at the 10th edition of the largest regional video game fair Reboot InfoGamer powered by A1, which will be held at the Zagreb Fair (ZV) from 14 to 17 November, at the same time as the Interliber book fair.
