€2.3m invested in new facilities at Lipik stud farm

Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, 21 Oct (Hina) - New facilities were opened at the state-owned Državna Ergela stud farm in the eastern town of Lipik on Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced in a press release.

The total value of the first phase of this investment project is €2.3 million.

The first phase included the construction of three stables, a manure disposal site and supporting infrastructure - an access road, water supply, a sewage system and a power grid.

The second phase, planned for next year, will include the construction of three more stables, rooms for workers, equipment and food storage facilities, and riding grounds.

The third phase will include the construction of the main entrance building, a car park, and landscaping.

The total value of the second and third phases is €11 million.

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Josip Dabro, proposed to the Ministry of the Interior that border guards use horses in protecting and monitoring the Croatian border and in protecting the Schengen area, "given that we have top-notch infrastructure and the best horses."

In Croatia, the Lipizzaner breed is the most widespread warm-blooded horse breed, with a total of 2,300 head of all ages. They are bred at the state-owned stud farms Đakovo and Lipik and by private breeders.

The tradition of Lipizzaner breeding in Croatia is inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
