Citizens of Split secure meals for 110 African children for entire school year

Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, 7 Oct (Hina) - Meals for 110 African children have been secured for an entire school year by donations raised at a charity dinner in Split celebrating 15 years since the establishment of the Mary's Meals Croatia organisation.

The donations will be directed into the school meals program in the "Split, Croatia" kitchen in Zambia, which feeds 348 children and which was opened thanks to the generosity of citizens of Split, Mary's Meals Croatia said in a press release on Monday.

The dinner was attended by about a hundred guests, who greeted the founder of Mary's Meals, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow and attended the screening of the documentary film Grains of Hope.

Mary's Meals began operating in Croatia in 2009. In the past 15 years, Croatian donors have helped open 32 school kitchens in countries such as Benin, Ecuador, Malawi and Zambia.

Thanks to the support of Croatian benefactors, last year 86,000 children received a hot meal every day in their place of education.

Every day, the international organisation Mary's Meals feeds more than 2.4 million children in 17 countries around the world, according to the press release.
