The company has informed the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency of its discovery.
Trebarjevo-1 is situated in the Sava-06 exploration block which mostly stretches across Zagreb County and to a lesser extent covers Sisak-Moslavina and Koprivnica-Križevci Counties and the City of Zagreb.
The drilling began in June this year and the ultimate depth of 1,670 metres was reached on 23 June. The well has met the expectations, detecting saturation with hydrocarbons, the press release said.
The chairman of the management board of the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency, Marijan Krpan, said that between 160,000 and 320,000 cubic metres of gas has been obtained from the well, which is about 10% of total daily gas production in Croatia.
"In recent years we have witnessed constant volatility of gas prices and that's why we welcome any news of an increase in domestic production," Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar said.
Aspect Croatia is a subsidiary of the Denver, USA-based oil company Aspect Holdings which signed a hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation agreement with the Croatian government in 2020.
The Ministry said that Croatia protected its interests in the new agreements.
"The new hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation agreements bring much more to Croatia. State revenues are generated through the sharing of hydrocarbon production as defined by the agreement and through profit tax, while the regional and local communities will collect fees for the obtained quantities of hydrocarbons and fees for occupying the surface, which the investor pays during the entire lifetime of the hydrocarbon field," the Ministry said.
