The fifth edition of the festival has been organised by the Split-based Cronaves association and the local authorities on the Dalmatian island.
This year, the Netherlands is the partner country and it is represented by four tjotter vessels, open round Fries sailing ships with a length on the stern not exceeding 5.4 metres.
Live concerts, gastronomic events and other entertainment programmes are part of the festival.
In attendance at the opening of the festival was Dutch Ambassador Charlotte van Baak, who spoke about the rich maritime tradition of her country and Croatia.
The festival is showcasing about 60 traditional boats.
