The campaign was launched by the Democratic Alliance of the Vojvodina Croats (DSHV) party.
"We have established contact with Podravka and have agreed on the delivery of around 300 tonnes of peppers and 100 tonnes of plums," said Marijan Davčik, director of the Voćko farm cooperative which has included eight pepper and plum farmers in this project.
Davčik said that Podravka was a serious partner and that the conditions offered to the farmers were good.
DSHV leader Tomislav Žigmanov told the Croatian-language media in Vojvodina that if the cooperation proved successful, talks would be held on expanding the initiative to make the cooperation more lasting.
The volume of trade between Croatia and Serbia is large but the share of Croat producers from Serbia in it is negligible, Žigmanov said, noting that the DSHV initiative would have concrete benefits for producers from the ethnic Croat community.
The Serbian Croat leadership has been working since the 2000s to connect ethnic Croat entrepreneurs with Croatian companies operating in Serbia or Croatia.
The Croatian-language media outlets in Vojvodina say there is no exact data on how many ethnic Croat entrepreneurs there are, what they produce, what capital they have or what their potential or problems are.
The Subotica-based foundation "Cro-fund" in 2021 started the registration of ethnic Croat businesses and farms with the aim of developing aid and subsidy programmes for them.
According to data from 2021, there are in Serbia more than 1,000 businesses owned by Croat entrepreneurs or companies.
