Croatian private sector enterprises generate €7.9bn in net profit in 2023

ZAGREB, 16 Aug (Hina) - Croatian private sector enterprises generated  €7.9 billion in net profit in 2023, or 19.9% more than in 2022, the Financial Agency (Fina) reports.

Last year, 153, 809 private sector enterprises employed 890,190 workers, up 5.6% from 2022, and earned €138.1 billion in total revenue (up by 10%), while the loss of those which ended 2023 in the red  totalled €2.5 billion, up 9.3% from 2022.

Total profit for the period was € billion and loss for the period was HRK 26.4 billion.

"The private sector played the most important role in the operation of enterprises in 2023, accounting for 98.5% of enterprises, 86.5% of employees, 85.7% of total revenue, 90% of profit for the period, 90.2% of loss for the period, 67.4% of gross fixed capital formation and 90% of total net profit generated by enterprises in Croatia," Fina said.

The average net monthly wage for private sector employees was€1,002, which was 2.6% less than the average for all enterprises in the country (€1,028).

State-owned enterprises

In 2023, there were 1,192 state-owned enterprises in Croatia. They employed 93,912 people and generated €13.5 billion billion in total revenue, €385.6 million in profit for the period, €93.8 million in loss for the period.

Thus, their net profit in 2023 totalled €291.7 million, after this segment ended 2022 in the red,  €545.5 million

Compared with 2022, state-owned enterprises increased the number of employees by 0.2% and increased total revenue by 18%, profit for the period by 39.1%, while they cut loss for the period by 88.6%

The average net monthly wage for state sector employees was €1,143, which was 11.2% more than the average for all enterprises in the country (€1,028).

Enterprises in mixed ownership

As for enterprises in mixed ownership, last year 295 such enterprises employed 43,693 workers.

They generated €9.2 billion in total revenue, €752.9 million in profit for the period, €167.4 million in loss for the period and thus, their net profit for 2023 was €585.4 million.

Compared with 2022, they reduced the number of employees by 0.6% and cut total revenue by 4.9% and total expenditure by 4%. On the other hand, they increased profit for the period by 9.4%, while loss for the period  jumped by 49.3%,  and net profit increased 1.7%.
