"I am very glad about Croatia House in Paris, where Croatian athletes will gather, as will tourism workers, who will promote Croatian tourism," said PM Plenković, who earlier in the day visited Croatian athletes at the Olympic Village.
On Friday, the prime minister attended the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games, held on the Seine, and he shared his impressions with journalists.
"The opening ceremony aimed to be different than previous ceremonies. It was the first opening ceremony held outside a stadium, 100 years after the last Olympic Games in Paris, it was a message about French values that have become universal values, with an overview of the history of France and Paris," Plenković said, adding that according to information available to him, the event was very well received.
Plenković, who sat at the ceremony by King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia, said he congratulated the Spanish king on his country's title of the European football champion, adding that they discussed numerous topics.
"The coronavirus is no longer here but two wars are underway and these Games will be specific. The current time is one of unbelievable security threats, and the circumstances are such that there are people who want to regulate relations between countries by using force and war," Plenković said.
Asked how many medals he expected Croatian athletes to win at the Games, he said that he believed everyone would be happy if they won eight medals, which is how many they won at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Attending the opening of Croatia House in Paris were also a former Croatian President and member of the International Olympic Committee, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Croatian Olympic Committee president Zlatko Mateša, Tourism and Sports Minister Tonči Glavina and Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.
