Span published a Sustainability Report for 2023 entitled "Charting a Course for a Resilient Future". Conversations with key stakeholders and careful consideration of Span's own influences resulted in an even better understanding of the intertwining of Span's business with the interests and viewpoints of various stakeholder groups.
Based on the opinions of key stakeholders and an internal assessment of the significance of the impact on the economy, environment and community, Span's material topics in 2023 were determined. As expected, Span's high-impact material topics relate to cyber security, privacy and data protection. Increasingly frequent and sophisticated attacks have contributed to a growing sense of insecurity, so it should come as no surprise that cyber risks have climbed the World Economic Forum's list of the biggest immediate, short-term and long-term global risks for the second year in a row.
One of the main segments for successful business and cooperation with stakeholders in Span is the supply chain. Thus, in 2023, they expanded the supplier verification system according to numerous criteria, from environmental issues and respect for human and labor rights to safety issues. The goal is to complete the verification of suppliers through 2024 and thus strengthen cooperation, but also reduce the risks arising from these business relationships.
"When we talk about sustainability, at Span we are focused on business solutions that contribute to cyber resilience, the transition to a more environmentally efficient cloud and the development of solutions based on artificial intelligence. Our goal is also further development of our ESG business segment to ensure multiple and long-term values for all our stakeholders", said Nikola Dujmović, president of the Span Management Board.
In addition to delivering quality solutions to its users, Span continuously works on improving its management systems and looks for new opportunities for further progress. So in 2023, they certified the business continuity management system according to the ISO 22301 standard and confirmed their commitment to doing business according to internationally recognized standards. In this report, Span shares its greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and 2 for Span d.d. for the first time, and they are already working on expanding the calculation to the entire Span Group, while opening the way for the estimation of Scope 3 emissions.
