Global scientific conference begins in Split

Author: Ivana Tomičić Šušak

ZAGREB, 17 June (Hina) - A global scientific conference, "13th ISABS Conference on Forensic and Anthropologic Genetics and Mayo Clinic Lectures in Individualised Medicine," dedicated to personalised medicine and clinical, forensic, and anthropological genetics, was opened in Split on Monday.

The conference was inaugurated by Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković who said that this event places Croatia at the centre of the world's scientific community's attention, which is a significant achievement for Croatian science.

"It is important that Croatia is recognised as a country of tourism, natural and cultural beauty, but by organising such events, we are also becoming known as a country that values science and has the capacity to engage with the most prestigious achievements and discussions in the world," said Jandroković.

"Four Nobel laureates and 450 guests from the country and abroad confirm the high status of the conference. I am here on behalf of the Croatian state to give strong support to such an event," Jandroković added.

ISABS founder Dragan Primorac claimed that this is one of the largest global scientific brands in the field of personalised medicine and clinical, forensic, and anthropological genetics. There is no other place globally that brings together a larger number of scientists who are leading authorities in biomedicine, including four Nobel Prize winners.

He recalled that so far, the conference has seen the participation of ten Nobel Prize winners, more than 6,000 scientists, and over 800 invited speakers from a total of 78 countries, making Croatia one of the most significant destinations in science, healthcare, innovation, and tourism.

Nobel laureates Sir Richard Roberts, Aaron Ciechanover, Gregg Semenza, and Svante Paabo arrived in Split. Alongside the ISABS conference, the Nobel Spirit event was organised, where Nobel Prize winners discuss the future of personalised medicine, the development of science and biomedicine, and society as a whole.

The opening was attended by more than 500 doctors, scientists, and students, as well as numerous public and political figures from Croatia.
