Households keen to install solar panels

Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, 1 May (Hina) - The  number of solar power plants has been on the rise in Croatia, as evidenced by data showing that as on 31 March 2024, a total of 17,697 solar power plants were connected to the national power provider HEP's grid, of which 12,495 were in the category of households and 5,202 in the category of businesses.

The total connection entry capacity of the solar power plants is 525.5 megawatts.

Divided by the number of connections per year, the figures show that the interest in the installation of solar panels has been constantly growing.

In 2019, connected to HEP's grid were 103 households and 153 businesses with installed solar power plants. In the following three years the number of connections grew, but remained at a three-digit level. A sudden jump was recorded in 2022, the year of the energy crisis, when 2,457 households and 576 businesses were connected to HEP's grid. In 2023 the number of connections saw an even more marked rise, with 6,747 households and 1,846 businesses installing solar panels.

The reasons for the increase in the number of solar power plants are manifold, and among the main ones is the uncertainty associated with electricity prices and incentives for the use of renewable energy sources.
