Georgia opens Honorary Consulate in Pula

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB,  19 April (Hina) - Georgia's Honorary Consulate was opened in the northern Croatian Adriatic city of Pula on Friday with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman and his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili attending the ceremony.

Grlić Radman reiterated Croatia's support to Georgia's European Union membership bid.

In July 2023, the Embassy of Georgia was formally opened in Zagreb, marking the deepening of bilateral relations, Grlić Radman said.

The two countries established diplomatic relations in early 1993, and the Croatian minster said that since then the bilateral cooperation has been developing in all fields.

"Our bilateral relations are good and friendly," he said.

The Consulate in Pula with Honorary Consul Marin Franinović is an opportunity to step up business cooperation between companies and strengthen cultural cooperation and overall relations, Grlić Radman said.

Our cooperation is based on the common European values. I would like to reiterate that Croatia offers full support to Georgia's efforts to join the EU and NATO, Grlić Radman said.

Darchiashvili said the Consulate is a sign of the continuation of intensified political dialogue and partnership between the two countries.

The opening of our embassy last year in Zagreb was a turning point in our relations and helped us to extend our engagement in southeastern Europe, said Darchiashvili.

I am confident that Croatia will stick to its consistent attitude on our foreign affairs goals, which is particularly important after the European Council's historic decision to award Georgia the status  of candidate for EU membership, he added.
