The continuous decline in unemployment is a result primarily of the country's strong economic growth, with Croatia's economy likely to expand by 2.7% in 2024, and there are some calculations that 30,000 new jobs are likely to be created this year, the HZZ head Ante Lončar said in Osijek during a fair at which 18 employers promoted their businesses and employment opportunities.
Efforts are being made to activate and utilise as much local labour as possible, Lončar said.
"According to findings of our surveys, we know who of those persons in our registers will be employed during the tourist season, which always mobilises a high number of workers. We are now focusing also on mobilising those who are out of work for a long period and potential workers from vulnerable sections of the society to reduce this disbalance between the supply and demand," said Lončar.
Employers need timely information about possibilities for hiring workers in Croatia.
Usually, 50,000-60,000 workers are hired for seasonal employment and those figures refer to vacancies in the hospitality sector and the construction industry, Lončar said.
Waiters and waitresses, chambermaids, masons, locksmiths and turners are most sought-after occupations in seasonal employment, he added.
