Author: Lana Lončarić

ZAGREB, 15 Jan (Hina) - The Embassy of Denmark in Croatia on Sunday organised an exclusive viewing and celebration of the handover of the crown to the new monarch, King Frederik X, which was attended by the ambassadors of the Nordic and European monarchies, it was said on Monday.

Denmark's Queen Margrethe II abdicated on Sunday after 52 years of reign and handed over the crown to her son and heir to the throne, Frederik, the former crown prince.

Danish Ambassador Ole Frijs-Madsen gave the audience, who watched the live broadcast from Copenhagen, an insight into the most important historical facts about the Danish crown, but also about the modern constitutional monarchy, which was followed by a quiz about European monarchies and Denmark's Nordic neighbours.

The day of the coronation was not only about the change of leadership within the Danish royal family, but also an opportunity for people in other countries to gather in celebration, be a symbol of togetherness, as well as witness the unity of the Danish nation, the embassy said in a press release.

Denmark's very popular Queen Margrethe II was officially in Croatia in October 2014, and she visited Zagreb, Koprivnica and Split.
