Pupovac, the Serb National Council (SNV) president, said that all the necessary permits, including the construction permit, have been obtained for this centre, which will soon be built in the Rujevica residential area, near the community centres for ethnic Czechs and Slovaks in Rijeka.
The author of the project, architect Vladi Bralić, said that the main segments of the future centre will be a hall for up to 100 people, and a library. Furthermore, the complex will include also rooms for the accommodation of up to 30 guests, that is students.
Pupovac said that this was one of about 40 projects which the SNV, the ethnic Serb umbrella association, has been preparing since 2018, and mentioned community centres for members of the ethnic Serb minority in small towns as well as in cities, including Zagreb and Vukovar.
Rijeka Mayor Marko Filipović said that the the location for the centre was chosen near the "Češki Dom" and "Slovačka Kuća" and that this part of the city would become "a centre of multiculturalism".
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect Zlatko Komadina also welcomed the project, adding that this city and county are the examples of coexistence.
