Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, 7 Dec (Hina) - The 9th European Congress of Young Farmers was held in the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday under the title "Young farmers: Guardians of tradition and drivers of innovation", selecting the best young farmers in the European Union.

The Congress was organised by the European People's Party (EPP), the Portuguese Confederation of Farmers and Spain's Agrarian Association of Young Farmers.

This year, Croatia was represented by David Pejić from Habjanovac near Vrbovec, about 60km east of Zagreb. He is the co-owner of the Zrno Eko Imanje farm that produces organic fruit and vegetables. Zrno is Croatia's oldest organic farm.

Pejić was hosted by Croatian member of the European Parliament Sunčana Glavak (HDZ/EPP), the EPP's ambassador for the selection of the best young farmer in Croatia. She said that young farmers "are leaders of sustainable and innovative agriculture."

The Congress brought together over 300 participants, discussing current issues in the agricultural sector.

Young farmers from 13 EU member states were competing for the title of Best Young Farmer in three categories: Best Digital Project, Most Resilient Project and Best Project for Improving Rural Areas. The titles were claimed by Matej Sklenar from the Czech Republic, Argyro Koutsouradi from Greece and Francois Lejeune from Belgium.
