Herzegovina more and more attractive to guests and for tourism investments

Author: Ivana Tomičić Šušak;Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, 7 Oct (Hina) - More and more travellers are visiting Herzegovina, and the year-round flights of Croatia Airlines (CA) between Zagreb and Mostar, and growing investments in the local tourist trade that relies on attractive scenery and specific hospitality services are also conducive to these positive trends.

The tourist cluster Herzegovina with 32 members is celebrating 10 years since its establishment this year and is committed to the development of tourism and the promotion of natural heritage.

This was said by representatives of the cluster led by the cluster management board chair, Marija Vukoja, as well as executives of Mostar airport and Croatia Airlines during a recent study visit for the Croatian media and travel agents.

Drivers of private initiative development

The cluster was founded for the development of tourism industry in Herzegovina, which does not have a regional tourism organization, so for now this development is mostly the result of private initiatives and investments, without public co-financing.

It includes members from three cantons in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina: Herzegovina-Neretva (in which Mostar and Međugorje are also located and have the most tourist traffic), Herzeg-Bosna Canton (Livno, Tomislavgrad and others) and West Herzegovina and part of the Republic of Srpska, i.e. Trebinje where also has its members in the cluster..

The participants of the study tour visited a number of other attractive locations in untouched nature, such as Mount Cincar and Kruzi hill near Livno, where wild horses live in the rural areas.

There are more and more agencies offering adventure trips, as well as trips to adventure parks such as Peć Mlini by the gorges and caves on the Trebižat River, Hutovo Blato  nature reserve and bird reserve  near Čapljina, and religious tourism with the Međugorje Marian Shrine being also a hit. Construction of new hotels is planned in almost all cantons.

Zagreb - Mostar airline is important to everyone

The Croatia Airlines (CA) Zagreb - Mostar air line has contributed significantly to Herzegovina tourism as of this year. It is an important regional line, says CA spokesperson Davor Janušić, announcing that the company will maintain it all year round.

There are flights three times a week, the planes are relatively well filled.

The airport of Mostar also offers charter flights.
