57-tonne Dubrava Water Tower erected in Zagreb County

Author: Hari Alfeo

ZAGREB, 30 Aug (Hina) - The Dubrava Water Tower, weighing 57 tonnes and with a capacity of 350 cubic metres, was erected in Dubrava municipality on Wednesday as part of a new water supply system in eastern Zagreb County worth over €93 million.

The water tower is 38 metres tall and the works cost €755,000. It is one of five water towers built in eastern Zagreb County as part of a EU water supply project. Four have been installed already, including Dubrava. The county invested €13.3 million in preparations for the project.

The project envisages the construction of 315 kilometres of new and the reconstruction of 110 km of existing pipelines, said Zoran Đuroković, director general of the Hrvatske Vode water utility.

The project will be completed in August 2024, when the pipelines will be put into operation. The new system will reduce water losses from the current 30% to 20%, Đuroković said.

Also, 30,000 new inhabitants will be connected to the system. "Such a big investment raises the connection of the local population to 80-90%, whereby we are approaching the standard in Croatia, which is in keeping with European Union standards," said Đuroković.

The project is financed under the 2014-20 Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion, including over €64 million in EU grants.
