Topolovac regional school confirmation of friendship between Croatia and Hungary

Author: Ivana Tomičić Šušak

ZAGREB, 4 May (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto on Thursday in Sisak's suburb of Topolovac opened a renovated school, stressing that Hungary's help in its renovation is a confirmation of friendship between the two countries.

The regional school Budaševo - Topolovac - Gušće was also renovated by the Hungarian Order of Malta with associates, and the Hungarian government helped the humanitarian campaign with an additional €160,000.

Construction work was completed in February, after which the school, attended by about forty students, was equipped.

"We in Hungary consider Croatia a friendly country, and Croats a brotherly nation. That's why we felt great fear when the earthquake hit Croatia in 2020, and it was also felt here in Budapest. When we saw the damage and consequences of the earthquake, it was clear that we would help," said Minister Szijjártó.

He added that the greatest victims of such disasters are usually children, so the decision was to restore safety and stability to children and their families. That's why the most appropriate help turned out to be the renovation of the school, so that the students could return to it as soon as possible, he added.

Minister Grlić Radman thanked for the help. "We were brought together here by the generous gesture of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary and the Hungarian humanitarian service of the Order of Malta. They, together with the City of Sisak and the relevant bodies of the state administration of the Republic of Croatia, and with the funds of the EU Solidarity Fund, enabled 43 students to return to their renovated school," he said. is Grlić Radman.

Grlić Radman mentioned that the reconstruction after the earthquake is in full swing, and the available EU funds are also being used. Sisak-Moslavina County is leading in the reconstruction, where about fifty large buildings were renovated, of which 14 were school buildings.
