Addressing the event, which was attended by a large number of guests from around the world, Jandroković said that the award was a valuable incentive to efforts to strengthen the ties with the countries where Croat expatriates live.
"Croat expatriates are the best promoters of the Croatian tradition, identity and customs as well as of the Croatian culture, sport, music and art in their respective countries," he said, noting that the recipients of the award were chosen by expatriates themselves.
Jandroković also thanked Croats in Germany for being a strong link between the two countries and for preserving Croatian traditions and customs, thanking Croat expatriates for their help to the homeland during and since Croatia's 1991-95 Homeland War.
The "Večernjakova domovnica" award, established by the Večernji List daily, is presented to the most successful Croat expatriates in the fields of sports and entertainment.
