Seawater heat pump system presented at Viktor Lenac Shipyard

Author: Lana Lončarić

ZAGREB, 16 Feb (Hina) - The "Seawater Heat Pump System" project, worth €480,312, was presented at the Viktor Lenac Shipyard on Thursday, and it will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improve the shipyard's energy efficiency.

This is an investment in the production of clean energy through a seawater heat pump system, with the possibility of operating in heating and cooling mode. The realisation of the project will ultimately contribute to a reduction of heating and operating costs.

The project is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, with national co-financing by Croatia with a €232,583 grant under the "Energy and Climate Change" Programme.

Board member Sandra Uzelac said that the Kostrena shipyard, which is primarily engaged in labour-intensive activities, consumes significant amounts of energy in its process, which burdens operations, and sometimes also relations with the environment.

This is why in 2013 they started energy efficiency projects, which until now they financed with their own money.

She underscored that the Kostrena shipyard could now, for the first time, partially finance one of its projects with a grant.
