The oldest citizen of Croatia is a 108-year-old woman who lives in Zagreb County. Most of the centenarians live in the City of Zagreb (59) and the coastal counties of Split-Dalmatia (31) and Zadar (19).
The fewest number of centenarians live in Međimurje and Virovitica-Podravina counties (2 each), while Varaždin, Koprivnica-Križevci and Vukovar-Srijem each have 3.
The figures show that 133 persons are 100 years old, 70 are 101 years old, 21 are 102 years old, eight are 103 years old, four have reached the age of 104 and as many 105 years, and three are 106 years old.
Among the 244 persons aged 100 and above, only 37 are men. According to the DZS, the average age of people who died in 2020 was 80.7 years for women and 73.8 years for men.
The longest living people in the world are the Japanese, with an average life expectancy of 85.3 years. The reasons for their longevity are a healthy diet, healthy everyday activities such as gardening, and socialising with other people, Večernji List said.
